Recently our special needs community lost one of our fellow mammas. I do not know the details surrounding her passing, but I can not help but think about how often we as moms that have kiddos with special needs or illness are so busy taking care of them we forget to take care of ourselves. Health is so important. I personally have missed scheduling my Primary Care appointment two years in a row now. My dentist appointment was rescheduled twice until finally I told them I would call them. Guess what? I have not called. A little over a year ago I struggled with depression. I could not find the time in my schedule to go in to talk with someone and get the help I needed until I hit rock bottom. We as mammas of kiddos with high needs need to make that annual appointment, we need to find ways to reduce stress, we need to ask for help, we need to talk to someone. Reach Out! Dont be ashamed or embarassed. We have a lot on our plates. If you are at Seattle Children's with your child who is battling cancer ask a counselor or social worker where you can get help. We need to make sure we take care of ourselves to remain healthy for our babies! If you are in need of help you can contact Christina Guerrero, MSW, LSWAIC at 509 630-3067 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we can help you find the right help.
The loss of this sweet mamma has been heavy on my heart, especially with Mother's Day being here. She has two sweet kiddos on the Autism Spectrum. Their daddy was laid off from Alcoa and now drives truck that demands long hours. There will be multiple fundraisers organized and I encourage you to help. They have a bank account set up at North Cascades Bank under Brittany Gilfoul or Jason Gilfoul. They have a Go fund me account set up at this link. https://www.gofundme.com/help-for-jason-olivia-and-khloe
