Sib Shops, what are they and why are they important

logo-2.jpg

A couple weeks ago we had the opportunity to go over to Lynwood and take a 2 day Sibshop facilitator course so we could start offering them here at The Brave Warrior Project!

So, what exactly is a Sibshop? Sibshops are fast paced events where siblings get to meet other sibs, have fun, laugh, talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a sib with special needs, play some great games, learn something about the services their brothers and sister receive, and have some more fun.

Sibshops are not therapy. The Sibshop model focuses on a wellness model. A place where sibs are recognized for their many contributions of being a sib. A place to connect with other sibs!

Our two days at this workshop were uplifting and eye opening. We had the opportunity to participate in a full sibshop facilitated by Emily Holl who is the Director of the Sibling Support Project. To hear the sibs share and play was such a great experience. It really showed why these workshops are important for our sibs!!

We are so excited to be able to facilitate Sibshops here in Wenatchee. We plan to offer 3 this calendar year. Our first Sibshop will be held on June. Stay tuned for date and registration.

Lets talk Rock Climbing

Hi there BWP family and friends,

We want to share with you a little bit about our Rock Climbing Club! When BWP first approached River Front Rock gym there was absolutely no hesitation on their part to offer a rock climbing experience for Warriors that may need a little extra assistance. They were in 100%! Willing to do whatever it took to bring this experience to our kids.

We held our first Rock Climbing experience in the summer of 2018. It was one of the most incredible experiences to watch our Warriors gain the confidence to try climbing and not only that, when successful, become so proud of themselves. Families and Warriors were cheering each other on. Watching our Warriors crush it on the wall was priceless! The staff at River Front Rock Gym could not be better! They worked at our Warriors pace. There was no rushing to get through it. There was no pushing. Just good old fashion fun and encouragement for our Warriors! Just what they needed to be successful.

We have had families tell us they didn't think their child could or would want to do it. They came and their child did it! Some kids need a couple classes of just watching before they participate and that is ok.

One of the most important things we emphasize with any of our programs is to just come and try. There are no expectations other than to have fun!

We keep groups small for the maximum experience.

Thank you Riverfront Rock Gym for supporting our Warriors and partnering with us to bring this experience to our area!

Our next club is Friday 3/1/19.

Cost is $15.00 plus tax.

Scholarships available.
